Projections on ceiling of the Ron Robinson Store in Santa Monica, California 2015 - 2019
This was an extraordinary experience. We were both surprised by the results!
Since the distance from the cabana to the ceiling was too close for these short-throw projectors, I found a combination of physically angling the projectors + digital keystoning that aligned the two images, which shared the same signal that was split using a Matrox. The combined image contracts in the center while expanding outwards. This created a sensational push and pull factor. Imagine visuals of a water stream flowing across while steadily rotating 360˚.
It was interesting to plan for this in Colorado and then present it in California. There were a few obstacles but it was a tremendous learning experience. I am very proud this installation had been maintained and operated periodically for over four years.
It was always mesmerizing when it played along with great music. That excited me about future installations or even displaying at concerts. Later on I had the opportunity to project these visuals at a Selasee and the FaFa Family show in 2018. I hope to continue this creative work in the future and am so grateful to the Robinson family for making this happen.
